    Cant focus on Jupiter

Hi, I am new to the whole imaging process so please forgive me if this is a lame question. I have an LPI which I am struggling to focus on my ETX90, I can get a good clear image with a 26mm Plossl and can do the same with a 9mm. When I view Jupiter through the LPI all I get is a blurry bright ball and I can just make out 3 or 4 blobs which relate to the moons. Is this a failing of the ETX90EC I have or is the LPI faulty or am I faulty.

    Thanks in advance Auger

    Re: Cant focus on Jupiter

    Hi, Auger

Most likely you are over-exposing (very common problem when first starting out). Try reducing the exposure time...it will need to become very short, just a small small fraction of a second.

I have imaged jupiter with an ETX-90 & LPI (some years back now ;-) so I know for sure you can do it. These instructions, while written for the DSI, should translate very easily to the LPI:

    Re: Cant focus on Jupiter

Chuck many thanks for your help and advice, I managed at the weekend to get some images of Jupiter which I then processed through K3CCD and was pleased with the results. Although out of focus on about 8 of the 15 the post processed image looked fairly good. More practice required and I now have a powered focuser so no more shake as I try and focus.
