Hey Fred,
I too had the same problem with the guide star drifting from the target area. A simple fix corrected my problem. I had to reverse the East/West arrow keys in my AutoStart 497 controller handset. Use the up/down and left/right arrow keys in Envisage to determine which set move the guide star back toward the target. I my case the east/west (right/left) arrow keys moved the guide star up and down on the screen (my guide star was drifting away from the target toward the top of the screen). Whichever set moves it in the direction you need to go, then that is what needs to be reversed in the Autostar handset. My experience was that, no matter the gain, I used, Envisage was sending the wrong directional commands to the mount and thus, driving the guide star away.
I have found that with my mount, 70-80 gain (depending on conditions) generally is sufficient to keep the guide star target centered. Also, I have found that with my LXD75 mount and the DSI Ic as a guide scope, that .70 of a sec usually will provide a good guiding routine. My mount struggles with anything over 2 secs for guiding purposes generating good pics with tight stars. I found that I could use shorter times if I optimized the focus of the star in the guide scope (using the same focal routine I use with My SN8, (I'm using a 900 mm Orion Guide scope and both have a stock focuser). Hope this helps.
