    DSI with windows Vista

Does anyone know if the DSI and software will work with Windows Vista. I have a DSI ordered but may have to Cancel. I cant seem to find a Definitive Answer on if they are compatible.
    Thanks

Hi Scott.  The DSI and Autostarsuite software does indeed work with Windows Vista.  I use a DSI Pro and DSI Pro II with Windows Vista Home Premium with no problems.  I do get annoyed with the windows security prompt that always asks me if I want to run the program when I launch the program.  I don't know why the security prompt always comes up, and I can't determine a way to turn it off either.

    Re: DSI with windows Vista

Well I can say that I haven't been able to run the DSI Pro or LPI to run on Vista Home Premium at all.  My PC is a Gateway MT6828.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times.  I also tried to download an updated version of .NET from MS and that did not work either.  From what I have heard it is a crap shoot if it works.  I have also had it work one time then after not running it for a few days it won't work again.

Since fighting with Meade and Vista to get them to play well together I have resorted to running VMware Workstation 6 so I can install XP inside Vista.  But it take some tricks to get the USB ports to work consistantly.

If anyone has had luck getting Vista, DSI, & LPI to run consistantly I would appreciate documentation on your configuration.  Here is my system:

Gateway MT6828, Dual, dual core Intel processors, 1.6ghz x2, 1g ram, 120g SATA HD, Vista Home Premium.

As for turning off the annoying ALLOW & CANCEL prompts I have found that under User Account Info in Control Panel you can turn them off..

    Hi, Karl

Sorry - I cannot help you personally - but, I can tell you it has been done by others. You might try sending a "private message" to Matt Taylor here...he is running a DSI under Vista.

    Re: DSI with windows Vista

I confirm, DSI with MEADE envisage with VISTA prenium do not work correctly, I  have the following error DSI error: firmware command rejected
I use a laptop Packard-Belll 2834 connected with a CELESTRON 8/ HED5 PRO with USB-R232 serial cable. it work correctly with Starry-nigth 5.0 on VISTA.

Now the operating system VISTA become the system by default on our computers,
what makes MEADE to satisfy these customers? MEADE software becomes obsolete!!

DSI with MEADE envisage with VISTA prenium now  work correctly.

After reinstall of AUTOSTARSUITE 2.0 , now work correctly, my error was not to have to install Microsoft.NET V1.1, I had the 2.0 only installed.

    Action made:

    -1)install AUTOSTARSUITE 2.0 with Microsoft.NET V1.1
    -2)install update autostartsuite4.0
-3)VISTA: change option for execution at compatible XP SP2 for autostarsuite and envisage process.
-4)Connect DSI (USB detected with no problem)
-5) Launch DSI image option (Envisage)
-6) No error and begin capture with no problem.

    Thanks  for your help.

DSI with windows Vista - Case Study

From all the people writing in it seems that DSI and LPI drivers are not being found or not working in Vista.  At least it is a crap shoot if they do work or not.  I would like to know from the people having got it to work and the ones that have not, what processor are you running?  Intel 64 bit process or AMD 64 bit processor.  AMD where design to run both ways 32 and 64 where as the Intel are only 64 bit.  I am just wondering if there might be a pattern here with different driver set for AMD and Intel chip that allow DSI and LPI drivers to work or not to work.  So list you process type and state if have a work LPI or DSI.   Lets see if there is a pattern.

Also check your USB chip set, what USB chip set are you running in your computer.  I have heard of some drivers not work well some specific USB chip sets.  Again looking for any patterns..  Maybe as least we may see which computer will work and the ones that will not.

    Thanks..

Re: DSI with windows Vista - Case Study

I think this is a good plan so here is my personal PC information.  I only have the DSI working, the LPI won't recognize the Meade driver.  It gives me an error saying it couldn't load the driver.

Gateway MT6828, Intel core 2 duo, (1.6ghz x2) 1g ram, running 32 bits, Intel 82801 GB USB Universal Host Controller, Vista Home Premium.

When I first tried to get the DSI working it didn't.  Since then I have installed a couple of Microsoft updates.  Vista is current on all updates.  In the beginning (Apr 07) Vista wouldn't even try to load the Meade drivers.  It would try to load some wierd unheard of driver.  Now it at least wants to load the Meade LPI driver only.

Re: DSI with windows Vista - Case Study

    Hello All,

After trying to get a DSI Pro and DSI II Pro running on Vista for several months (since Feb.), I finally succeeded a few weeks ago.  For the record -

    Intel Core2 Duo, 2.00GHz, 2GB RAM, Intel 82801G USB, 32-bit Vista Business

In my case, the problem was almost certainly with the Autostar Suite installer/updater.  Identical installs and updates on two WinXP machines worked, but not on Vista.  Eventually, I looked at the WinXP and Vista machines side-by-side and found that the DSI driver versions between the WinXP and Vista differed even though both had been installed using the same Autostar Suite CD-ROM and the same Autostar Suite Update 4.  For reasons unknown to me, the updater failed to install the latest DSI driver on Vista, although every attempt at the install and update always reported as successsful - never a single error message.  My ultimate solution was to copy the driver from the WinXP machine to the Vista machine and then to have Windows update to that driver via Control Panel and Device Manager.

Based upon recent postings from Karl and others, it sounds like their eventual soluton to get Vista running with their DSI was to install/update in just the right way, but only after several tries.  Which also seems to indicate an installer/updater problem, not a fundamental problem with the DSI driver itself.

I have a Toshiba notebook running Vista Home Premium, with an Intel 1.6ghz processor. I have not had any problems using either my DSI Pro I or DSI Pro II.  I'm not sure what "USB chip set" means or how to check it.

    Re: DSI with windows Vista

Scott,  I just got the DSI for the reduced price of $99 and tried to install on my Windows Vista Basic laptop but kept getting the "firmware error" indicating it couldn't find the device.  I had followed the order of installing the suite, update, etc in the exact order listed here.  Still no joy.

Then, I realized that even though I had right-clicked on the autostar suite icon and changed the program to run in Windows XP compatability mode,  I hadn't ALSO told the Envisage program to do the same!  You see, Envisage is a SEPARATE program run from within the suite.  Telling the Autostar Suite to run in XP mode DOES NOT change the Envisage program!

You must go to the "Program Files" folder, then open the "Meade" folder, then open the "autostar suite" folder, then open the "Envisage" folder, and FINALLY, right click on the Envisage application icon and tell it to open in XP mode!

    That fixed if right away!

    Lyle
