    Dsi 2 colour

Well first of all I am currently borrowing a Dsi 1 and got the hang of
    the software (kind of)

and now I I'm trying to find and buy a Dsi 2 colour
do you think It's a good buy?
    any problems with it?
is it much better than the dsi 1? or not
any images of what I can achieve (can't seem to find many)
any other recommendations? (apart from mono's)

    Re: Dsi 2 colour

I got one when they first came out because I was feeling so limited by the original DSI-Color. It has about a 20 percent larger chip, so the image is bigger.  It's more sensitive than the original version and also, produces much less noise inside the image.  At least mine did.

I only held it for a month or so however, before buying the SBIG ST402 which I still use well over a year later.  What I would do knowing how similar these cameras are, is save up for a DSI-3.  They are the cream of the crop from Meade and you would be going up several steps from the orig DSI-C rather than just one step.

Of course for the same price as the DSI-3 you can get the same camera I got from SBIG and have better sofware and also active temperature control...rather than passive.

BTW, to compare the chips sizes, I took a composite photo of Jupiter when I still had the two cameras side by side.  Click Here

You can clearly see the difference in size between the two imagers, looking at that shot.  You will also see many shots from the ST402 if you browse that gallery of mine.

Sure - the original Beta program gallery is on the Photos page, near the top:

I have a number of DSI-II images scattered through my album (check the notes under the images):

And Tom King has an extensive DSI-II image collection:

    Re: Dsi 2 colour

    Hi, Chris

You are looking pretty good. Are you using a focal reducer? If so, you may need to take care to center the camera with the optical axis of the scope. If not, I would say your collimation could use a bit of a twaek.

I like the diffraction spike mask for a focus aid - use it on a bright star when you first align, then goto the target & start imaging. Watch the focus as the scope cools off - you will have to adjust frequently if the temp falls rapidly.

Of course if the seeing is unsteady, you can only get it so good.

    Re: Dsi 2 colour

yes my collimation is off I have used the diffraction spike mask lately but my other main problem is my exposure  time till now I have only managed to capture a maximum of 20 sec on my Cg-5
any way I'm buying the Meade illuminated reticle soon to assist me in polar alignment   and maybe I can get a good dso with the Dsi
    wish me luck!
