NGC 253

NGC 253, The Sculptor Galaxy located in the southern constellation of Sculptor.
Imaged with a Meade DSI Pro II on a Meade 80mm, ED, APO piggybacked on my RCX400 which was autoguided with a Meade DSI Pro I using PHD.
Combination of 50 x 8 minute subs, aligned, combined, dark subtracted and flat divided with AIP4Win and further processing in PSCS2 using Ron Wodaski's Zone system.
Location: Scopehill Observatory near Fort Scott, KS on 09-26/27-08

One of several images of the ISS that we imaged last night when it rose in the NW at 10D, headed nearly overhead to 70D and disappeared in the SSE around 17D. I hand guided the telescope using my telrad while my friend, Brett operated Meade Envisage software capturing the images. We started out with 0.004 second images and then switched to 0.002 second images to hopefully get something usable.

When we were done, we were both impressed with what we found on the harddrive! We actually imaged the ISS, and it is recognizable.

Since the final photo taken with my 14.5", F5.6 Newtonian was M-57 about 2 months ago, I felt it only fitting to begin my new era of astrophtography with my 12", F-8 RCX400 by again imaging M-57 as a comparison.

The original, as seen in my nebulae folder, was a composite of about 100, 1 minute subs, autoguided with my Newt. This image was a composite of a mere 100 subs of 15 second duration (about 1/4 the imaging time) and was completely unguided, with just the RCX doing it's thing.

To say the least, I was impressed with it's first light!

Luminance only for February challenge in DSI group. Nothing spectacular. DSI Pro II thru 14.5", F-5.59, GEM Newtonian, guided with the piggybacked 5", F-5 Newtonian and a DSI Pro I. Approximately 100 subs of 30 second duration for a total exposure time of 50 minutes.

This was taken on Saturday night 05-20-2007 with my 14.5", F-5.59, GEM mounted Newtonian with a DSI Pro II with a luminance filter only. Guided with my DSI Pro I thru my 5", F-5.0, piggy-backed Newtonian. It is a compilation of 240, 15 second subs for a total exposure of 1 hour. Seeing and transparancy were above average, no wind, no moon.

42 minutes total luminance with 1 minute subs. Combined, aligned and dark subtracted in ASIP and curves, levels, contrast and brightness adjustments in PSCS2 along with some of Noel Carboni's added tricks.
