M27 - Dumbell Nebula

8" Meade LX-90 GPS with standard wedge

Meade DSI IIIc at the prime focus. Autoguided with Starlight 80 + DSIc with .5S update rate in PHD.

9 240S Subs, Sorted by eye, dark subtract done on the fly in Envisage, flat frame, bias calibration and stacking done in AIP4Win 2.2 for each individual LRGB channel. Calibrated channels then exponentially stretched, registered and joined in AIP4WIN 2.2 using join colours tool. Final finishing in Photoshop with auto-levels and slight unsharp mask.

Taken on 28-06-2009

Seeing was reasonably good, although the sky is never dark this time of year... I took this shot after investigating the cause of the rugby ball shaped stars in the crescent nebula and black eye galaxy posted previously. For anyone interested in the cause, it's not a good idea to have the PEC turned on when autoguiding...
