Messier 11 - Wild Duck Cluster

Messier 11 - Wild Duck Cluster in Scutum

Messier 11 is a rich and compact open cluster, located some 6,000 light years from Earth. This is a relatively young cluster, with an estimated age of 220 to 500 million years.

This is a quick grab of the Duck, following a cleaning of the 35mm sensor of the Canon EOS. This is always a bit of a nervous endeavor with this camera - One slip and the shutter is done for!

Equipment: Canon EOS Digital Rebel camera, Meade LX90 8" SCT f/10, IDAS 2" LPS filter. Guided by DSI II Color on AT80ED 80mm f/6.9 refractor.

Exposures: 12 x 60s, ISO 800. Processed in AIP4WIN for alignment of images and calibration, Adobe Photoshop CS for stacking and final processing.
